The Jordan Valley Innovation Center (JVIC) is a tripartite center focused on the advancement of experiential hands-on learning for students and the commercialization of technology developed by researchers affiliated with Missouri State University. The Center’s website http://jvic.missouristate.edu describes JVIC as a multifaceted resource that functions cooperatively with state and private investment agencies for the growing life sciences and high technology industries of Missouri.
JVIC was built on the site of what was originally a feed mill where grain was processed and distributed across the region. Recently the mill was renovated and modernized to accommodate the needs of the local high technology and life sciences industries; as well as University students and faculty who developed marketable technology.
JVIC now comprises five buildings totaling 75,000 sq ft, spread across three centers each devoted to a single interdisciplinary aspect of technology commercialization.
The Center for Applied Sciences and Engineering (CASE) – This center houses 15 labs, and 5 clean rooms split between corporate labs and accessible University labs. The Center includes shared facilities for imaging, thin film sensor construction, computer assisted fabrication and manufacturing equipment, and the Cray Supercomputer.
The Center for Biomedical and Life Sciences (CBLS) – CBLS has a wide range of resources available for workforce preparedness applications and for the development of commercialized technology coming out of the University. Included within the collected facilities of CBLS are: Bioassay and diagnostic capabilities, cell and tissue culture space including BioSafety Level II facilities, histological analysis of specimens and modern molecular biology equipment. They also have numerous projects with ongoing corporate collaborations.
Springfield Innovation – This is the place in JVIC where entrepreneurs can go for advice and consultation when considering the commercialization of a new discovery or invention. Springfield Innovation provides business services that can maximize the efficiency and returns of an entrepreneur’s investment. Springfield Innovation Inc has numerous connections with local economic development councils and associations, and they will assist a young company developed by a University student or affiliate network and reach their given potential.
All together, JVIC works to maximize the growth and innovation of life science and high technology based industries in the Missouri region. By partnering with local government and corporations JVIC creates an environment of excitement and confidence for both new and established businesses.
