UCLA on-campus Technology Incubator at the California NanoSystems Institute

The California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) recently opened the UCLA on-campus Technology Incubator to accelerate the commercialization of intellectual property developed within the University of California System (UC). CNSI is one of four of the Governor Gray Davis Institutes for Science and Innovation which include in addition to CSNI where facilities are incorporated at both UC Los Angeles and UC Santa Barbara to generate innovation in nanoscale systems; the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3) which draws on the strengths of UC Berkeley, Santa Cruz and San Francisco to develop new approaches to biological innovation and operates the in-house incubator, QB3 Garage and QB3 Mission Bay Incubator Network

; California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) combines resources at UC Irvine and San Diego to foster and develop innovation in information technology, and telecommunications; the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) incorporates the strengths of UC Berkeley, Davis, Merced and Santa Cruz to develop IT solutions to problems in a way that brings about accelerated commercialization.

The on-campus Technology Incubator at CNSI opened just this past March and provides 2,000 square feet of flexible lab space to accelerate up to 10 entrepreneurial endeavors based on UC technology. The incubator receives assistance from the UCLA Office of Intellectual Property and Industry Sponsored Research, according the Incubator’s website http://www.cnsi.ucla.edu/staticpages/incubation incubator tenants access "7 state-of-the-art core lab facilities" and "a 260-seat state-of-the-art theatre, conference and interaction rooms with wireless internet access." A recent company that just joined the incubator is MediSens, which uses wireless technology to monitor a patient’s health.
