Meet with... NCI Application Deadline

 

Application Deadline August 6, 2010 

The 
National Cancer Institute (NCI) recently introduced the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II Bridge Award mechanism, designed to incentivize their phase II awardees to obtain 3rd party financing in order commercialize technologies developed with SBIR funds. 

In this session, Directors from the NCI SBIR Development Center will talk to current and potential grantees about the 
Bridge Award and other opportunities such as their contract topics

After the presentation, each attendee will have a private meeting with Mr. Michael Weingarten – the Director of the NCI SBIR Development Center – and/or Dr. Ali Andalibi – the Program Director of the NCI SBIR Development Center. 

To apply for one-on-one meetings, please send your Executive Summary by August 6, 2010 toevents@sjbiocenter.com. The Review Board, composed of the BioCenter management team, sponsors, partners and mentors, will then meet to consider your application.

Newly funded companies create medical innovations, help businesses improve productivity
PHILADELPHIA, PA (www.sep.benfranklin.org) – Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/SEP) recently approved investments totaling $1,800,000 for nine early-stage Pennsylvania companies with promising technology innovations.  Included in this is a $500,000 investment in Molecular Detection Inc. (MDI).  MDI developed a quick method to detect drug resistant Staph infections.  Investment details follow.

  • Require a multidisciplinary approach; and

Eligible Applicants: Oklahoma Businesses and Enterprises, Oklahoma Colleges and Universities and Oklahoma Non-profit Research Foundations
 
AWARD TYPES
 
Proof-of-Concept Applied Research and Development
Proof-of-Concept Applied Research awards support early stage applied research and development projects such as:
1. Proof-of-concept research and technical development projects
2. Exploratory development
3. Product definition
Proof-of-concept awards are capped at $45,000 per year for a two-year award period.
 
Accelerated Applied Research and Development
Accelerated Applied Research and Development awards support later stage applied research and
development projects for which the product is defined, the market opportunity is well assessed,
commercial opportunities are clearly identified and a commercial entity is defined. The maximum amount
of OCAST funds for an accelerated project is capped at $300,000 and can be scheduled over one, two or
three years.

Locke Announces National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Members

 

Council will advise the president on ways to foster entrepreneurship and transform laboratory ideas into new businesses and jobs
 
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke today announced the members of the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a group that will support President Obama's innovation strategy by helping to develop policies that foster entrepreneurship and identifying new ways to take great ideas from the lab to the marketplace to drive economic growth and create jobs. Locke made the announcement at a U.S. Department of Commerce University Innovation Forum at the University of Michigan, where participants discussed the role of universities in innovation, economic development, job creation and commercialization of federally funded research.
 
The National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship will help build on this aggressive agenda. Members of the council include serial entrepreneurs, university presidents, investors and non-profit leaders. Steve Case, Mary Sue Coleman, and Desh Deshpande will serve as Co-Chairs.  See the full list of council members below.
