Newly funded companies create medical innovations, help businesses improve productivity
PHILADELPHIA, PA (www.sep.benfranklin.org) – Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/SEP) recently approved investments totaling $1,800,000 for nine early-stage Pennsylvania companies with promising technology innovations. Included in this is a $500,000 investment in Molecular Detection Inc. (MDI). MDI developed a quick method to detect drug resistant Staph infections. Investment details follow.

PHILADELPHIA--(June 24, 2010) – Scientists and researchers from 17 universities and research institutions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware have been invited to submit proposals for the third round of the University City Science Center’s QED Proof-of-Concept Funding Program.
The RFP was released on June 24 to: Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Delaware State University, Drexel University, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, Lehigh University, Monell Chemical Senses Center, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Temple University, Thomas Jefferson University, University of Delaware, University of Pennsylvania, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, Widener University, The Wistar Institute.

Grants Will Help Bring New Green Technologies to Market, Creating Jobs, Launching Businesses
Philadelphia, June 11, 2010- The City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation, in partnership with the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern PA are launching an innovative new pilot program designed to help Philadelphia companies with cutting edge energy efficiency technologies develop a market for their products. The Greenworks Pilot Energy Technology (G-PET) Program offers grants to Philadelphia companies to accelerate the introduction of their new, energy efficient products and services to the marketplace. G-PET is being funded with $430,000 of federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to the City of Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA (May 13, 2010) – Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and a national delegation participating in the Rethink. Recover. Rebuild: Reinventing Older Communities conference, today visited The Navy Yard and Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/SEP).The conference, sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, is focusing on reinventing older communities in the wake of the foreclosure crisis and the federal government’s economic stimulus programs.
RoseAnn B. Rosenthal, President and CEO of Ben Franklin, welcomed Chairman Bernanke, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia President Charles Plosser, and other officials at the Building 100 Innovation Center. The Building 100 Innovation Center is a partnership among Ben Franklin, DVIRC and the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) for innovation, entrepreneurship, and business growth. Today Ben Franklin’s headquarters, the building dates back to the 19th Century, originally built as a Marine Corps Barracks.

WHAT: Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is participating in the Rethink. Recover. Rebuild: Reinventing Older Communities national conference sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. The conference will focus on reinventing older communities in the wake of the foreclosure crisis and the federal government’s economic stimulus programs.
Bernanke and other conference-goers will tour The Navy Yard in Philadelphia, itself a redeveloped business community and a regional hub for technology commercialization and new enterprise growth.
The tour will stop at the Building 100 Innovation Center. Dating back to the 19th Century, Building 100 was originally built as a Marine Corps Barracks. Today it is a partnership between Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania, DVIRC and the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation, for innovation, entrepreneurship, and business growth.
